Directors of NDP Music Videos to Share Their Experience with Patriotic Storytelling in SFS Panel Discussion2 min read

With National Day just around the corner, and the National Day Parade (NDP) due to take place on 21 August, the Singapore Film Society (SFS) is organising a timely panel discussion – Singapore in NDP Music Videos Through the Years – on the craft of directing National Day Parade music videos.

NDP music videos (MVs) are a very particular art form, one that specifically employs patriotic storytelling and demands that directors weave multiple strands into one cohesive and rousing story arc. The local directors on this panel, with expert experience in NDP MVs dating as far back as 2005, and including the co-directors of the 2021 NDP music video, Huang Junxiang and Jerrold Chong, will share the challenges and joys in being a part of annual festivities to mark Singapore’s birthday.

The Zoom panel discussion has been organised by the SFS’s Community Events team and it follows an earlier SFS virtual panel discussion held in March, Southeast Asia, Animated, which featured Hollywood veteran and former Disney animator Raul Garcia.

These panel discussions are part of the SFS’s regular Kopi & Movi sessions, which invite filmgoers to engage in meaningful discussion with filmmakers, subject-matter experts and fellow film lovers in both in-cinema (within safe-distancing limits) and virtual settings.

With 2021 continuing to be a challenging year for filmmakers, film distributors and exhibitors, and filmgoers, SFS has continued to organise and present screenings and discussions as part of film festivals, showcases and watch parties such as the 4-week master series on Indian Cinema which concluded in July. Upcoming events to look forward to include the third part of the SFS Showcase of film which is expected to take place in late September and early October 2021.
