From 10 July to 28 August 2021, the Asian Film Archive will be featuring the works of Iranian auteur, Abbas Kiarostami, in new 2K and 4K restorations for the first time in Asia.

French New Wave pioneer Jean-Luc Godard once put it, “Film begins with DW Griffith and ends with Abbas Kiarostami.” Considered one of the most influential voices in cinema, Kiarostami (1940 – 2016) had graced the world with his powerful and imaginative films throughout a nearly five-decade career. Marked by intimacy and a poetic voice, his cinema invokes introspection and a thoughtful exploration of the boundary between fiction and reality, encouraging audiences to discover new ways of looking at the world.

“Retrospective: Abbas Kiarostami” will showcase 18 feature films, 4 short features and 12 short films, including renowned works such as Close-up (1990) and Palme d’Or-winning Taste of Cherry (1997), as well as rarely-seen early short films made during pre-revolution Iran.

Tickets go on sale from Monday, 5 July 2021 at www.bit.ly/AFAticketing.

Head over to the event page for more information, and follow the Asian Film Archive on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates on the retrospective and on all their exciting film programmes to come.
