Reading Time: < 1 minuteAn investigation published by the Los Angeles Times has uncovered financial and ethical lapses in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, as well as a complete lack of diversity among its members.
Earlier last month, long-time member and subsequent president of the HFPA Philip Berk came under fire for an email he sent to fellow members which called the Black Lives Matter movement a “racist hate movement”. He was later expelled from the organisation.
Since then, Netflix and Amazon have both announced boycotts from the HFPA. A-list stars including Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo have spoken out against the organisation’s culture of sexism, secrecy, and exclusion.
