Announcing The Finalists For The Third Round of The Inciting Incident Screenplay Challenge!2 min read
Reading Time: 2 minutesEarlier this year, Sinema Media, a consultancy and project management company focused on film and media initiatives, kickstarted The Inciting Incident, its inaugural screenplay challenge, in partnership with casting agency Hello Group, acting school Method Acting Asia, publishing house Epigram Books and production house Catharsis.
In March, we concluded the first round of the screenplay competition with a special livestream show announcing the round’s winners and a jury discussion on the importance of good script writing in the different fields of the film industry, from producing to directing and acting. We continued with our second round of the competition in April, which was concluded in June with a similar livestream show.
Sinema recently concluded its third round of The Inciting Incident, which challenged writers with the genre of DRAMA.
The prizes for this round are:
First Place | $200 cash prize A spot to attend a Fundamentals of Acting workshop by Haque Centre of Acting & Creativity (worth S$100) A one-week casting package from Hello Group to go towards the production of the winning entry as a short film, worth S$3000 A 87-key mechanical keyboard |
Second Place | $150 cash prize A spot to attend a Fundamentals of Acting workshop by Haque Centre of Acting & Creativity (worth S$100) A 61-key mechanical keyboard |
Third Place | $50 cash prize A 61-key mechanical keyboard |
Catharsis Award | Catharsis will cover all expenses to produce the script and make it into a film within 12 months. Writer will be invited to be involve throughout the process from pre-production to post-production. Catharsis will also cover all submission fees to at least three film festivals. More terms and conditions will apply |
Contestants submitted an original screenplay in English for a 3 – 5 minute short film based on the quarterly genre.
For this round, our panel of industry professionals are:

Chng Ying Tong, Producer, The Flying Kick Asia
Together, they have narrowed down the entries to ten finalists based on the criteria of form and craft, creativity, and producibility.
