iQIYI International Begins Filming ‘The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang’, the Company’s First Original Drama for Southeast Asia1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteiQIYI International, an on-demand video streaming platform bringing popular Asian content to an international audience, today announced that the company has commenced filming The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang (the Series), its first original drama created for the Southeast Asia market. To further support the expansion into the Southeast Asia market, iQIYI International has named the film’s leading actor Lawrence Wong as the company’s first VIP member ambassador.
Adapted for the region in terms of cast and crew, storyline and location selection, the Series will provide a more localised viewing experience for Southeast Asian users who resonate with the Series’ geographical and cultural background.
The Series, adapted from iQIYI’s 2014 classic Mandarin-language series Soul Ferry, portrays the history of Singapore and Malaysia during World War II. It is produced by executive producer Guo Jingyu and Yeo Saik Pin, and co-directed by Guo Shimin, director of the Mandarin-language series Soul Ferry, and Chia Men Yiang, a renowned Singaporean director. Young Singaporean actors Lawrence Wong and Kate Kinney and Chinese actor Qi Yuwu lead the cast.
