To celebrate the values of diversity, passion and resilience, the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) has launched an anthology of five films by student filmmakers titled Regardless Of.

Scripted and directed by young Singaporeans, Regardless Of tells the stories of Singaporeans’ passion and resilience to evolve and progress, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.

Through the lenses of student filmmakers, Regardless Of brings to life stories on issues such as social mobility, ageing and family ties, connectedness and lifelong learning. The films also gave the students an opportunity to look in to micro-moments in the daily lives of ordinary Singaporeans and present the stories behind them creatively to the audience.

Regardless Of kicked off in October 2019 with an open call to students in Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs). Six students were shortlisted from local polytechnics and universities to participate. In collaboration with industry partners, Tribal Worldwide Singapore and MLC TV, the student filmmakers were provided with mentorship and production support
such as scripting, casting, directing and editing.

Ms Soffy Hariyanti, Director, Campaigns & Productions Department of MCI’s Public Communications Division said, “We are very impressed with the quality of the films and the passion shown by the student filmmakers. We wanted fresh perspectives from young Singaporeans on their take of Singapore and how its people have progressed over the years. The work they have produced has achieved that. We hope the students have enjoyed telling their stories and gleaned much from the collaboration with industry experts.”

The five short films can be viewed online on Gov.sg platforms including its website, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
