The 42nd Golden Harvest Award Announces Its Shortlist4 min read

The 42nd Golden Harvest Award, hosted by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development of Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and organised by Taiwan Film Institute, has announced its shortlist on 3 January, marking the beginning of this film festival. This year, a total of 300 entries were received, of which 273 are eligible. This is the highest number of entries in the Award’s history. The jury with various professional backgrounds, from story creation to film production, launched a heated discussion on judging, and finally selected 54 shortlisted films, to compete for a total prize of 5.35 million NTD (approx: SGD 241,038) !

由文化部影視及流行音樂產業局主辦，財團法人國家電影中心承辦的「第42屆金穗獎」於1月3日公布入圍名單，為本屆的影展活動拉開序幕。今年徵件階段共收到300件報名，其中273部作品符合報名資格，創下歷年來報名數量最新高。兼具各項專業背景的評審團，從故事創意至實際製作各面向展開熱烈評分討論，最終選出54部入圍影片，即將角逐535萬元的總獎金！

The press conference invited Lu-Yiching, who won awards at the 53rd Golden Bell Awards for A-Tsuí & Kok-Siông《阿水和國祥》 and at the 54th Golden Bell Awards for 3 Days 2 Nights 《三天兩夜》, and Wang Ko-Yuan, who was highly praised for his performance of The World Between Us《我們與惡的距離》, to jointly serve as the image ambassadors of the Award. The two ambassadors not only cooperated for the first time, but also appreciated each other’s performances, with both looking forward to this cooperation. Lu-Yiching said that she had strong feelings for the Award asshe was recognized as the Best Actress at the 31st and 41st editions. Wang Ko-Yuan is about to publish two new works in 2020. The performances of the two ambassadors span TV and film, because many of the directors in the early stage of their cooperation were tempered and affirmed by the Golden Harvest Awards, and they were very happy to be ambassadors of the Golden Harvest Awards.

入圍記者會邀請到金鐘獎53屆《阿水和國祥》以及54屆《三天兩夜》連兩屆獲得到影后殊榮的陸弈靜與演出《我們與惡的距離》演技備受肯定的王可元，共同擔任本屆金穗獎形象大使，兩位大使不僅首度合作，更欣賞彼此的演技，對於這次的合作也非常期待。陸弈靜說她對於金穗有濃厚的情感，因為她曾獲得第31屆、第41屆金穗獎最佳女主角的肯定。王可元即將在2020有兩部新作品即將問世。兩位大使演出作品橫跨電視及電影，因為許多合作的導演創作初期都是來自於金穗獎的淬煉與肯定，對於擔任金穗獎的大使極為開心。

This year’s finalists are divided into Open Category and Student Category. The creative lineup of the finalists is very strong, including many finalists of this year’s Golden Bell Award and Golden Horse Award. There is also a noticeable diversification in the topics tackled by the film entries. With the adoption of equal marriage rights in 108 Republic of China Calendar Year (Year 2019), filmmakers began to pay attention to equal rights issues, transitional justice, political and economic society. In addition to these issues, the types span different styles such as horror, fantasy, and realism, etc., and the vigorous creation atmosphere makes the number of this application more than the previous number. For the first time in the competition’s history, the “Best Director Award” will be launched. From all shortlisted short films, one director will be selected from the Open Category and one from the Student Category with a prize of NT $100000 (SGD4,500). This award is expected to encourage more new directors to be seen.

本屆入圍作品分為「一般組」及「學生組」，入圍者的創作陣容十分堅強，不乏本年度金鐘獎、金馬獎多位入圍者。依據參賽作品觀察，可以發現短片的創作形式越趨豐富多元，加上108年婚姻平權的通過，讓創作者們開始關注平權議題、轉型正義、政經社會；除了以上議題外，類型更是橫跨恐怖、奇幻、寫實等不同風格，蓬勃的創作氛圍讓此次報名數量更勝於以往件數。此次賽制中，首度推出「最佳導演獎」，將從所有的入圍短片中，自「一般組」及「學生組」各選出一名導演，頒發獎座及獎金新臺幣十萬元，本獎項期望鼓勵新銳導演，讓更多新銳導演能被看見。

At the press conference, the master visual of this year’s Golden Harvest Award was first presented. 42nd Golden Harvest Awards also has dual master visual for the first time. In his vision, Shang Ru Tsai said that the origin of the creation was that the film was like a three-legged race, gathering different fields and ages, and stepping out of comfort zone. He hopes that people can explore the unknown together through the connection and cooperation with others, and grow up inspired by each other’s life experiences.

記者會上首次亮相金穗獎的主視覺，首度以雙主視覺展現42金穗魅力，主視覺設計師蔡尚儒說，創作起源係因電影像是兩人三腳的衝刺賽，集結不同的領域、年齡，跨出自我的舒適圈。希望人們經由與他人的連結與合作，共同探求未知，在彼此的生命經驗裡，獲得啟發而成長。

The 42nd Golden Harvest Awards film screenings will be held from March 21 to 29, 2020 at SPOT Huashan Cinema and Fuzhong 15 – New Taipei City Documentary Cinema, and from March 30 to May 10, 2020 at Y17, Eslite Spectrum and all over the country. The Golden Harvest Awards ceremony, known as the highest honour of short films in Taiwan, will also be held on March 27 at Hana Space, 10th floor, Taipei City Youth Development Office, Y17.
