This fall, Festival de Cannes Film Week lands in Hong Kong to make its Asia debut at cultural destination K11 MUSEA from 12 to 17 November 2019. The inaugural Festival de Cannes Film Week will be held at the K11 Art House and will screen six films from the Official Selection 2019 of Festival de Cannes. Today, Festival de Cannes Film Week and K11 MUSEA are proud to announce the lineup of films, masterclasses, and film presentations during this unmissable cinema experience. Ticketing for Festival de Cannes Film Week opens to the public on Tuesday, 15th October.

The truly unique Festival de Cannes Film Week brings the essence of the world’s most celebrated film festival to Hong Kong and its film lovers. This landmark moment for cinema culture across Asia is brought to Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, Hong Kong by Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival de Cannes; Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate of the Festival de Cannes; and Adrian Cheng, Founder of K11 Group and Executive Vice-Chairman of New World Development. Poised to become the city’s most iconic film week, the first Festival de Cannes Film Week in Hong Kong takes the spirit of the 72nd Festival de Cannes on a journey, sharing the work of the world’s greatest artists by rolling out the red carpet on the opening night on 12th November 2019 in an unprecedented celebration of creativity, culture and cinema.

Six Films from the 72nd Official Selection

Guests at Festival de Cannes Film Week will delight in six highly acclaimed films from the Official Selection of the 72nd Festival de Cannes making their premiere in Hong Kong. Shown either in Competition or in Un Certain Regard, the films represent cinematographic works from around the world: French, Italian, Belgium, Brazilian and American.

The six films were widely praised at the Festival de Cannes 2019 before making their debut on the Hong Kong silver screen and are presented by Thierry Frémaux. From the In Competition section, Young Ahmed, directed by the world renowned Dardenne brothers, is the winner of the Award for Best Director, while Portrait of a Lady on Fire is the winner of the Award for Best Screenplay.

Also making its Hong Kong debut from the In Competition section is The Traitor, the latest work by top Italian director Marco Bellocchio. Highlights from the Un Certain Regard section include The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmão, winner of the Un Certain Regard Prize; The Climb, winner of the Un Certain Regard Jury’s “Coup de Cœur” Prize; and On a Magical Night (Chambre 212), winner of the Un Certain Regard Best Performance Prize for Chiara Mastroianni.

With these stunning films, Festival de Cannes Film Week showcases the creative power of world class filmmakers and upcoming directors who are setting the tone for the international film industry moving forward.

Three Masterclasses

Beyond experiencing some of the year’s most remarkable films, Festival de Cannes Film Week attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy three masterclasses. The first masterclass on 13th November will feature a special surprise guest. On 14th November, Festival de Cannes Film Week at K11 MUSEA will welcome Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne, members of the very close circle of only 8 filmmakers in the world to have won the Palme d’or twice, for a masterclass in their first appearance in Hong Kong. Finally, on November 15th, Thierry Frémaux will provide detailed insight into the inventive works of the Lumière brothers in his special presentation.
