NEWS: Korean Actor Ryu Jun Yeol wins Rising Star Award at NY Asian Film Festival1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteKorean actor Ryu Jun Yeol will receive the 2019 Screen International Rising Star Asia Award at the 18th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), which runs from June 28 to July 14.
Ryu will receive his award on July 6.
His breakout film role was the 2015 film Socialphobia, which explored the bullying dangers inherent in social media networks. Altogether Ryu has appeared in more than a dozen films, including, The King, Little Forest, and A Taxi Driver, which became the highest grossing Korean film of 2017. Ryu also won a Best New Actor (film) award at the 53rd Baeksang Awards for his role in The King.
In the actor’s latest film, Money, he plays the hungry young stockbroker, Jo Il Hyun. Jo hopes to make his fortune in the Yeouido securities market, but without the right experience or the connections, he is prompted to take a gamble on a sketchy transaction. Unfortunately, Jo finds himself in the middle of a dangerous scam and the only way to extricate himself is to help authorities catch the scammer. The financial thriller has been described as the Korean equivalent of Wall Street.
