NEWS: 2019 Art Directors Guild Awards Releases List of Nominations1 min read

On Jan. 7,  the Art Directors Guild announced the nominees for their 23rd annual awards, which will be handed out on Feb. 2. These kudos have a stellar record at previewing the Academy Awards. Over the first 22 years of these prizes, the eventual Oscar winner for Best Production Design has always numbered among the ADG nominees in the various categories. The ADG winners will be revealed on Feb. 2, 10 days before final voting for the Oscars begins.

Period film contender The Favourite is locked in a tight race with fantasy film nominee “Black Panther” to win the Oscar for Best Production Design according to our predictions. A nominee from each of the three ADG categories round out our top five frontrunners to be Oscar nominees: period piece First Man, fantasy Mary Poppins Returns and contemporary feature A Star is Born.
