NEWS: Salt Media & Entertainment Will Commence Operation of Singapore’s First Cinema in the Financial District2 min read
Reading Time: 2 minutesMovie enthusiasts working in Singapore’s central business district can now look forward to a new entertainment option to visit after work, as Salt Media & Entertainment will commence operation of Singapore’s first cinema in the financial district. In collaboration with CapitaLand, Salt Media will operate the 228-seater Big Picture theatre located on the ninth level of Capital Tower along Robinson Road, occupying the same building as some of Singapore’s largest corporations including GIC and J.P. Morgan.
Straying away from the usual Hollywood fare served up by mainstream theatres, Salt Media @ Capital Tower will bring in inspirational movies from around the world. In this vein, the theatre hosted the Singapore red carpet premiere of iconic Australian film Storm Boy yesterday, with child lead actor Finn Little and movie director Shawn Seet gracing the red carpet. The Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, His Excellency Mr Bruce Gosper, was the Guest-of-Honour.
A remake of the 1976 classic film of the same name, Storm Boy is directed by Asian-Australian director Shawn Seet and stars Geoffrey Rush, Jai Courtney, as well as breakout star Finn Little. The movie follows a young boy who rescues three pelicans along the Southern Australia coastline, forming a close bond with them in the process. Salt Media & Entertainment also served the role of co-producers on the film.
Ms Lynette Leong, CEO of CapitaLand Commercial, said: “Big Picture theatre is an auditorium for corporate events and seminars by day and a movie theatre by night and on weekends. This is just one of the many new unique experiences that we are reinventing as part of CapitaLand’s ‘office-of-the-future’ strategy to create the next wave of distinctive workplace offerings. With more vibrant programming, we hope to enliven the business district by drawing new crowds to the CBD and expanding the use of our office spaces beyond working hours.”
The new theatre breaks ground in a few other ways – all its ticket sales are done online, and it serves gourmet popcorn. It boasts a high resolution 4K laser projector and a Dolby Surround 7.1 sound system to provide a first-class cinematic experience.
“With the premiere of Storm Boy, we have reached our first milestone in co-producing quality content that inspires global audiences. We look forward to producing more such content that audiences worldwide can enjoy,” said Sherman Ng, Founder & CEO of Salt Media & Entertainment.
Besides Storm Boy, Salt Media & Entertainment is also co-producing two movies slated to be released this year – Stano, an inspirational underdog story about a baseball star fighting to reclaim his life after being released from prison starring celebrity couple Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara, as well as The Very Excellent Mr Dundee, featuring Crocodile Dundee actor Paul Hogan.
