Malaysia to establish new co-production partnerships at Asia TV Forum and Market 20152 min read

The National Film Development Malaysia (FINAS) is to establish new co-production partnerships with several foreign agencies at the Asia TV Forum and Market (ATF) 2015, which is happening from 2nd to 4th December, with the aim to grow the creative industry by up to 30%.

“Dato’ Kamil Othman, Director General of FINAS who will be attending the market for the first time since his appointment as DG, will be meeting several global agencies and other national pavilions to forge relationship and encourage international co-productions. As such, FINAS will discuss with The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) to promote and facilitate the exchange of contents, so as to contribute towards creative economic growth.”, according to FINAS media release.

FINAS will also provide various incentives to encourage the partnerships, including the “˜Co-Production Fund’ and the Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI), which offer various financial assistance to the co-produced projects between Malaysia and foreign companies. The continued success of the incentive is projected to grow the Malaysia’s creative content industry up to 30%, resulting in job creation and revenue generating opportunities.

Director Dato’ Kamil Othman has expressed great confidence in the success of the co-production opportunities and in Malaysia’s ability to “compete on the world stage”.

ATF 2015 anticipates the participation from over 20 Malaysian companies under the Malaysian delegation, including Animasia Production Sdn Bhd, Animonsta Studios Sdn Bhd, Astro, Go ASEAN, Inspidea Sdn Bhd, Media Prima Berhad, Primeworks Studios Sdn Bhd, and Total Sport Asia. To facilitate the partnerships between Malaysia and global companies, more than 100 Business Matching Meetings will be held and a “Creative Malaysia Networking Reception” will take place on 2nd December.

The Malaysian delegation to ATF 2015 is organised by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM) together with their strategic partners, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Creative Content Association Malaysia (CCAM).
