LucidCam stereoscopic 3D camera brings VR content creation to the masses1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteCalifornia-based startup LucidVR recently showcased its consumer-level camera for creating virtual reality content, LucidCam. The camera, which is nearing mass production, is one of the first to enable anyone to create VR content, something that has thus far been limited to those who can afford expensive VR camera rigs. LucidVR is currently seeking funding for LucidCam on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo.
LucidCam is a compact stereoscopic 3D camera with two 180-degree wide-angle lenses. Videos can be captured in Full HD 1080p resolution per eye, while still photos are captured with a similar resolution per eye. The camera is compatible with Google Cardboard and other VR headsets, and will support livestreaming via HDMI-out if the campaign’s stretch goal is met. The integrated battery claims up to an hour of recording per charge.
LucidVR is hoping to raise US$100,000 on Indiegogo, where it’s nearing its goal with about US$76,000 in pledges; 43 days remain in the campaign. A ‘super early bird’ LucidCam model is available for a US$299 pledge. Shipping to backers is estimated to start in July 2016.
