What was it like in early Singapore? To celebrate Singapore’s 50th birthday, Singaporeans will be able to catch five early local films for free at the Capitol Theatre.

Tickets to the films will be available on SISTIC from Monday (Aug 3).

The free screenings are part of the Spotlight on Singapore Cinema initiative led by the Media Development Authority (MDA) in collaboration with the National Library Board, National Archives of Singapore, Asian Film Archive (AFA), and the National Museum of Singapore Cinematheque.

The films that will be screened are 1963’s Chuchu Datok Merah (Datok Merah’s Grandson), The Lion City (1960), the 1952 P Ramlee drama Patah Hati (Broken Hearted), Hokkien opera film Taming of the Princess (1958) and 1979 Tamil romantic drama Ninaithale Inikkum (Sweet Memories).
