Upon accepting the Sundance Vanguard Award, Alejandro González Iñárritu offered remarks on the future of the movies: “We are a society of the spectacle.”

2015 Oscar champ Alejandro González Iñárritu accepted the Sundance Vanguard Award this week in Los Angeles, presented to him by Ava DuVernay. The “Birdman” director had just come from wrapping up “The Revenant,” with Leonardo DiCaprio, in the mountains of Canada. But still he mustered the energy to make some very astute remarks about the state of cinema.
