In cooperation with distribution and production company Monster Pictures, the inaugural event brings a diverse and interesting mix of Asian genre films from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, China and the Philippines to film enthusiasts in Australia.
The festival is set to showcase 20 films over four days, kicking off with 2010 horror flick Helldriver from film director and special effects artist Yoshihiro Nishimura. The festival concludes with Underwater Love, a self-described “pink musical”. In between, a range of genre films ranging from horror and action-comedy to robots, zombies, erotica, crime thrillers and even family fare await audiences. These include the Chinese period blockbusters Wu Xia, Let the Bullets Fly and 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy and the ultra-violent Korean thrillers The Yellow Sea and I Saw the Devil.
The Philippines offers a glimpse into its own myths and folklore in the horror double-bill Altar and Yanggaw, while the Japanese line-up includes Ninja Kids!!! based on a beloved cartoon series, erotic sci-fi Erotibot and grindhouse revenge films Yakuza Weapon and Yakuza Hunters.
