Singapore Submits Tatsumi Film for Oscar Consideration1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteThe Variety entertainment industry magazine reported on Friday that Singapore will submit Eric Khoo’s animated film adaptation of Yoshihiro Tatsumi’s A Drifting Life autobiographical manga for consideration in the foreign-language film category for the 84th annual Academy Awards. Official nominees have yet to be selected from the pool of films that countries submitted.
The film was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May.
The manga is based on a semi-autobiographical account of Tatsumi’s struggle to make a living after World War II. Tatsumi and others began challenging normal standards of manga drawing by pioneering a nontraditional gekiga style of storytelling and art design.
