Fantasia 2011: Korean director Ryoo Seung-wan says “˜thanks’ for awards1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteThe Feature Film Jury of the recently wrapped up 2011 Fantasia Film Festival gave two prizes to the Korean drama The Unjust.
The Best Screenplay award went to Park Hoon-jung, and the Best Actor award went jointly to the two stars of the film: Hwang Jeong-min and Ryoo Seung-beom, (sometimes spelled Ryoo Seung-bum) Ryoo Seung-beom is the brother of the director of the Unjust, Ryoo Seung-wan.
Each of the Ryoos recorded a thank-you video for these awards. The videos are on the web site of CinéAsie, whose founder Mi-Jeong Lee is also a programmer at Fantasia. The videos don’t have subtitles, but CinéAsie has provided transcripts in English and French. Director Ryoo Seung-wan came to Fantasia to present the Unjust, but he returned to Korea before the awards were handed out.

I am the director of THE UNJUST, Ryoo Seung-wan. I heard my film received the Best Screenplay and Best Actors awards at Fantasia. Thanks to all and I am thrilled to learn about this. Thanks to all the jury members who watched and supported this film. Also, I was very moved by the amazing audience at Fantasia.
I really hope to have a chance to visit again. Ah, a truly lovely festival! Fantasia has energized me to make new films. I really want to visit Fantasia again with a new film. I will share this wonderful news with the screenwriter, Park Hoon-jung.
