2 NID films picked for Jeevika Film Festival1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteAhmedabad: Two documentaries by NID students have been shortlisted for screening at the Jeevika Asia Livelihood Documentary Film Festival, to be held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
Post graduate students of films and media communication, Anoop Sathyan’s movie ‘A Dream Called America’ and ‘Budhan Diaries’ by Harish Singh will be among the four films to be screened under the student category.
Organised by the Centre for Civil Society, the documentary festival to be held from August 26 to 28 is part of the larger livelihood freedom campaign, ‘Jeevika’ which helps develop public policy measures.
In fact, apart from the festival in Delhi, ‘Budhan Diaries’ will also be screened at the Cine Fresco film festival in Kolkata. The film is about the journey of Budhan Theatre of Chharanagar in Ahmedabad, which has, through street plays, documentaries and other forms of communication, been spreading awareness that Chharas are not ‘born criminals’.
The movie revolves around three central characters – Kalpana Gagdekar, a founder member of Budhan theatre, Krishnakant Machrekar and Jayendra Machrekar.
