THE Federation of Film Ar­tistes’ Association of Malaysia (Gafim) and the National Film Development Corpora­tion (Finas) target a total of 29 films to take part in the 24th Malaysian Film Festival (FFM24) on Nov 19.

The figure matches the total number of films submit­ted last year, and maintains the number after only a total of 26 participating in the event in 2009, and definitely a more commanding figure in comparison to less than 20 in the late 1990s.

Gafim president Jurey Latiff said the development was an impressive and positive increase, despite some only focusing on production to make a quick buck without thought or focus on other aspects of film-making.

“The recent successes speak for themselves with many films achieving box-office status, with the average viewing audience at almost 600,000 per local film in just the first five months of this year.
