Night Market to make history1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteNight Market Hero (雞排英雄) will next week become the first Taiwan film to be imported and distributed in China under the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) signed in June last year.
China and Taiwan have had politically difficult relations for the past 60 years, with Taiwan operating much like an independent state and China claiming the island as a part of its territory.
Prior to ECFA, films from Taiwan were treated the same as foreign productions and were subject to quota restrictions. Films from China, but not co-productions, are still subject to import restrictions in Taiwan, limiting them to ten per year.
Hero earned NT$51.3 million ($1.8 million) at the Taipei box office and is estimated to have taken approximately NT$125 million ($4.3 million) nationwide. It will be distributed in China by Bona Film Group (åšç´å½±æ¥é›†åœ˜) from 12 July.
