National artists’ son Jose Mari Avellana passes away at 701 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteAward-winning film director and actor Jose Mari Avellana died at the age of 70 last June 26 due to aneurysm.
He passed away Sunday at the Cardinal Santos Memorial Medical Center, as reported by Yahoo! Philippines.
Avellana, the son of national artists Lamberto Avellana (Film and Theater) and Daisy Avellana (Theater), has achieved a considerable presence in the fields of film and theater. He directed “Kung Mawawala Ka” in 1993, which was a Best Picture recipient at the Metro Manila Film Festival.
He also wrote and directed another acclaimed film, “Damong Ligaw,” released in 1997.
His acting resume includes being cast in Carlos Siguion-Reyna’s 1991 film, “Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit.” As reported by ABS-CBN, the thespian also appeared in international movies such as “Bloodfirst,” “Bloodfirst 2,” “Caged Fury” and “Saigon Commandos.”
