Reading Time: < 1 minuteGlen Goei’s quirky murder mystery gem, The Blue Mansion, is set to wow audiences with its riveting murder mystery plot, as well as the excellent acting put forward by the star-studded cast, which includes Adrian Pang, Emma Yong, Tan Kheng Hua, Neo Swee Lin and Lim Kay Siu. It is a comedy whodunnit that shows the evolving dynamics of family relationships in the household of Singapore’s richest man. Wealthy Asian tycoon Wee Bak Chuan’s sudden death leaves his family in disarray, dealing with their grief, as well as tension between one another, and business competitors. Mr Wee himself returns as a ghost to witness his own wake. Both the living and the dead reveal their grievances, and find out unexpected truths.
The entire film is set in an opulent mansion, which complements the sinister storyline. Goei masterfully builds up the suspense with a variety of colourful characters – the snarky detective, the overbearing, tyrannical ghost of the father, and his dysfunctional family – and draws the audience in as the plot unfurls, revealing the darker secrets of the family.
Following its success in local theatres, The Blue Mansion went on a year long journey through international film festivals. It held its world premiere at the 14th Pusan International Film Festival.
Director Glen Goei will be present at the screenings at Sinema Old School for a short Q&A session, on 25 and 28 May.
