“Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives” from director Apichatpong Weerasethakul won over five nominated films including two box-office hits from China: “Aftershock” and “Let the Bullets Fly.”
It was the first Thai movie to be named best film at the Asian Film Awards, now in its fifth year.
Mr. Apichatpong thanked the jury for honoring his “very small film,” and he called on the Asian film industry to continue to “create great, great stories for the future.”
