WE HAVE barely made it past the third month of the year and already five local feature films have made their way to our silver screens.

Well, at least that will be the tally of wide-release local features when actress-comedienne Irene Ang’s comedy Perfect Rivals opens in cinemas tomorrow.

It is quite a feat, considering the number doesn’t include all the other short films and small single-print showings, even if savvy movie marketers did strategically choose to focus on the favoured Chinese Lunar New Year period.

So with the anticipation of the Media Development Authority-hosted ScreenSingapore in June, and a plethora of local films – including Li Nanxing’s The Ultimate Winner, Eric Khoo’s Tatsumi and Chai Yee Wei’s Twisted – all set for the year, 2011 is looking to be a bumper year for local film.
