Since Mr. Garcia last held the post of executive director of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society 30 years ago, the show has evolved into one of the largest in the world. He now sees Asia as an epicenter of the best film has to offer right now.
After spending time in California as a producer, film writer and consultant to various film festivals, Mr. Garcia returns to the city of his birth with fresh ideas and inspiration. The film festival now screens more than 330 films, growing from its origins as a small outpost. This year’s festival, starting March 20, will be Mr. Garcia’s first in this second term on the job, which started in October.
