Atomic Bomb Survivor Documentary Gets Japan Release1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteA documentary about a double atomic bomb survivor who was the recent object of jokes on a BBC quiz program is to get a theatrical release in Japan.
Niju Hibaku-Kataribe Yamaguchi Tsutomu no Yuigon (Twice Bombed, Twice Survived — The Last Words of Peace Speaker Tsutomu Yamaguchi), will be screened in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, beginning in July.
The jokes about Tsutomu Yamaguchi made by the celebrity panel of QI provoked some anger and bewilderment amongst Japanese, particularly the fact that the show was broadcast by the BBC, which is generally held in high regard in Japan.
Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima when the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945; badly burned, he traveled back to his hometown of Nagasaki, to be hit by the bombing there on August 9.
