Reading Time: < 1 minuteEvery year the film festival circuit starts in late January with Sundance and the Rotterdam International Film Festival, but the first major cinefest takes place every February in pleasing, freezing Berlin.
This year the Berlinale, as the event is known, will run from February 10 to 20, and an unprecedented number of Thai films – three – will be seen at the festival venue on Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin.
Filmed in stealth and facing an equally stealthy future, Thunska Pansittovirakul’s The Terrorists is a gay film fraught with political outcry – and that description can be reversed. Seventeen unrelated fragments, both documentary-like and experimental, combine to create a tableau of current Thailand, with episodes dealing with the Red Shirt protests last year.
