‘I have a peculiar way of seeing things:’ Documentary on Seaside woman wins acclaim1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteFrom her bed in the picturesque town of Seaside, Janis Sawyer keeps her eye on the world around her.
Those who pass through Sawyer’s world seldom see her, but she sees them.
A quadriplegic for 22 years, these days Sawyer leaves her house only for doctor visits. However, with the help of the Internet and technology, she watches the goings on in the world outside from her bed.
Sawyer’s story caught the attention of three German filmmakers who came to Seaside three years ago to interview people who actually lived in the storybook town. The other interviews were abandoned when they found Sawyer.
