Reading Time: < 1 minuteTVB Pay Vision, a Hong Kong pay-TV group, is to launch a new film channel this weekend.
It kicks off with a screening of 72 Tenants of Prosperity, the Hong Kong-centric film that last year was the second biggest Chinese-language movie at the Hong Kong box office with a gross of HK$34m ($4.39 million).
The company says the channel will feature the best Asian cinema and animation titles. It also announced that it will have the exclusive TV premieres of all current and upcoming theatrical productions by Shaw Studios.
Shaw, which is linked to TVB’s controlling shareholders Run Run Shaw and Mona Fong, sold its back catalogue to Celestial Pictures nearly ten years ago. But after a 13 year hiatus, it has since ventured back into film production with titles including Turning Point (Laughing Gor), 72 Tenants and the recent Perfect Wedding.
