Filipinos seek support for film industry1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteTwo Filipinos recognised for alternative movies in international film festivals said their countrymen must support their film industry and yet be choosy with movies they patronise.
They are second generation movie actor Epy Quizon, 37, and independent film director-scriptwriter-cinematographer John Torres, 35.
Both said that while it has long been considered that Philippine cinema is a “dying industry” brought about by many factors such as piracy, “formula stories” as dictated by moneyed production outfits, there is the other side to it.
“We have to support our own and our independent filmmakers. Both the men behind the camera and our actors, have proven they can compete in the international arena through the years,” said Quizon.
