With her most recent films, the Tokyo-born actress adds assassin, interned Japanese American, and legendary mother to the list.
Kurando Mitsutake, director of Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf, credits Denda´s singular talent and screen presence with bringing life, depth, and believability to a larger-than-life character. Says Mitsutake. “I would pretty much love to work with [Denda] continuously.”
Denda plays another distressed mother in From the Shadows, a feature documentary concerning the problem of parental child abduction and retention in Japan. In an animated segment that recounts a well-known Japanese folktale, Denda voices one of two women who go to court, each claiming to be the mother of the same child.
