The film, which recently competed at the Tokyo International Film Festival, also won the best actor award for its ensemble cast.
The jury of the international competition – composed of producer Vincent Nebrida, actress Iza Calzado and Film Business Asia’s Stephen Cremin – awarded Kaitan City the top prize for “its moving and keenly observed portrait of a contemporary city, its sharply drawn characters and finely calibrated performances.”
The festival trophy – designed by local sculptor Napoleon Abueva – is in the shape of a “bulol”, a deity that ensures a good harvest.
