To American moviegoers, Jang Dong-gun is a relative unknown.

But the 38-year-old is one of Asia’s biggest sensations, sought for films in Japan, China and his native South Korea.

The quietly charismatic heartthrob first received recognition for his heart-wrenching turn in the 2004 Korean War film “Tae Guk Gi,” followed by international acclaim for his leading role in the 2005 Chinese epic “The Promise.”

Now he’s going west – Wild West – playing a deadly assassin named Yang who flees his corrupt clan for a new life in America, where he meets a knife-throwing circus girl (Kate Bosworth) every bit as sharp as he.
