Asian or European?1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteGeographical confusion was in evidence again this weekend at a film prize ceremony.
Levanon (Lebanon) (pictured), written and directed by Israel’s Samuel Moaz, won two prizes at the European Film Awards last night at a ceremony in Tallinn, Estonia.
It was rewarded with the prize for cinematography and was also named as European Discovery of the Year. Only two days earlier at a ceremony in Queensland, Australia, the same film won two prizes in the Asia-Pacific Screen Awards.
APSA uses a UNESCO definition of Asia to determine eligibility and includes Israel as part of Asia. Lebanon was backed by French, German and Israeli funding. It won the Golden Lion at the Venice festival in September.
