Reading Time: < 1 minuteTaiwan-based director Tsai Ming-liang on Friday gave a talk in Brazil, recounting his experience in filmmaking and his views on the artform.
He said that unlike Western markets that allow diverse cinematic styles, Asia film markets are more focused on commercial and entertaining films.
When asked about the source of his inspiration, he replied that in a conceptual way, each film is like a portrayal of his own life. He loves to share and communicate this in his cinematic works, he said.
He said he was extremely lucky to be able to make films in Taiwan in the 1980s because filmmakers in Taiwan have full liberty in terms of cinematic style and content.
