Chen orbits Atom1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteDirector and producer Chen Kuo-fu has reportedly bought a personal 35% stake in Taiwan distribution, production and sales company Atom Cinema. The deal was announced in Taiwan’s United Daily News newspaper.
Chen is currently head of production at China’s Huayi Brothers, where he produced recent blockbusters Aftershock and Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame.
The article claims that Chen will produce Tom Lin’s Starry Starry Night whose budget will now more than double from NT$20-30 million (under $1 million) to NT$60-70 million (over $2 million).
The film, which Atom Cinema brought to project markets in South Korea and Taiwan, is based on a children’s picture book by local illustrator Jimmy Liao. It is a fantastical coming-of-age story seen from the perspective of a 12-year-old girl who runs away from home.
