“When Hainan Meets Teochew” press screening at Sinema1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minutePrior to its official screening on 3 December, “When Hainan meets Teochew” had its debut press screening at Sinema Old School on 24 November.
Directed by Singaporean filmmaker Han Yew Kwang, the movie is an “unromantic romance comedy” of a “manly” Hainanese woman and “womanly” Teochew man who end up together in the most unusual circumstance.
This is Han’s third feature film followed by “Unarmed Combat” and “18 grams of love”, which has won awards at numerous film festivals. “When Hainan meets Teochew” is his first feature project produced from his production company, 18g Pictures, which aims to produce films with his own brand of comedy.
According to Han’s interview with Sindie, Hainanese men are said to make the best husbands, while Teochew wives are said to be the prettiest. However in this film, the Hainanese is a “manly” woman while the Teochew is a “womanly” man who were brought together by a lost bra.
The casts includes Lee Chau Min (Hainan) and Tan Hong Chy (Teochew), award-winning actress Yeo Yann-yann from “881”, Alaric Tay from Singapore comedy TV series “The Noose”, Catherine Sng from “School Days” and Soundrarajan Jeeva.
Sinema will be screening “When Hainan meets Teochew” from 3 December to 19 December, and there will be a Question and Answer session on the 3 December (8pm) and 5 December (4pm).
