Former Korean council head files suit against Culture Ministry1 min read

Cho Hee-moon, former chairman of the Korean Film Council who was sacked by the Culture Ministry, filed a lawsuit against the ministry.

“Such allegation is just an attack from those who do not agree with my opinion in deciding the direction of the film promotion policy,” Cho wrote in the petition.

According to the Seoul Administrative Court, Cho said in his petition that the ministry’s allegation that he unfairly wielded his power to influence the council’s judging panel to help certain independent films get state funding “• was not true.

Cho was also criticized by lawmakers in a parliamentary audit last month for improper conduct. He submitted the same documents to the National Assembly for the October audit that had been already submitted to the standing committee three months before.
