“Sandcastle” is a coming-of-age story about an 18-year-old facing the skeletons in his family’s closet.
Singapore in recent years has taken steps to expand its role as a media and entertainment hub, and “Sandcastle” was funded largely by the Singapore Film Commission, which through its New Feature Film Fund seeks “to nurture the next generation of aspiring local filmmakers.”
“It never was intended to be a political film. It’s simply about being socially conscious and politically aware. But I hope “Sandcastle” can set a certain benchmark when it comes to addressing issues and allowing discussion.”
