HK: Shaw’s Grand Cinema Plans Offerings Expansion1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteThe Grand Cinema, Shaw Brothers’ $100 million multiplex, will add performing arts to its cinematic roster to fully utilize the 12-house multiplex’s infrasonic facilities and location.
“We hope to capitalize on our location and our proximity to the West Kowloon Cultural District,” said Lemon Lim, who recently left her position as director of distribution and library management at Fortissimo Films after five years at the company.
The cinema’s newly appointed program director, Lemon Lim, intends to bring mini-concerts, photo exhibitions, film and media-related conferences and screenings of operas and classical music performances to the 1600-seat cinema, in addition to film programming and mini film festivals, in order to expand and develop the multiplex into a multimedia cultural landmark.
The cinema’s location near the proposed district, the 40-hectares of reclaimed land at Victoria Harbour waterfront earmarked by the Hong Kong government for arts and cultural facilities, would give strategic advantages to its development into a cultural space.
