Now in its eighth year, the World Film Festival of Bangkokt has been steadily expanding in scope and influence.

This year, under the slogan “Emotions Unleashed”, 150 films from around the world, including the best of new Thai and regional cinema, will be screened.

Bangkok Post Entertainment interviews Kriengsak “Victor” Silakong, the festival director, to discuss this year’s line-up and festival goals, cinematic trends and the state of independent Thai cinema.

“We first had our film festival more than 10 years ago. We changed the name because we divorced from the tourism board. We did the right thing because at the end it didn’t work. It was a big government agency. And then we focused and we continue to be a platform for independent cinema and masters of cinema.”
