Ting Szu Kiong’s ‘The Forest Spirits’ Coming Soon to Sinema2 min read

The film will be screened at Sinema Showoff! The Oriental Show, a themed showcase of local short films featuring Oriental directors, subject matters and languages. Sinema Showoff! this year is a monthly screening hosted by Sinema Old School and curated by Singapore Polytechnic.
The film recently made its world premiere to approx. 1,000 people at Maskara Shorties, a film festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia .
The chief curator of the festival Mr. Sinaganaga Lan Hussain remarked, “Szu Kiong’s stunning visuals take me back to CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON. A must-see.”

“The Forest Spirits is a beautiful piece of artwork that reinforces our Oriental-themed screening and besides its Hungry Ghost Month. I’m quite certain this film will get more screenings locally and overseas,” said Ramasamy Rajesree, our Guest Curator from the Singapore Polytechnic.
Sinema Showoff! The Oriental Show is on Tuesday, 31st August 2010 at 7.30pm. Admission is FREE.

THE FOREST SPIRITS is the first Singapore wuxia short film. A powerful clan leader (Sunny Pang) goes deep into the forest to hone his supernatural skills. To stop disturbance, he kills one of the forest spirits to warn them while they are having a celebration. Years later, the forest spirits lure a young man into the forest. This is their first step in their revenge against the tyrannical man who has taken away their territory.

About the Director:
Ting Szu Kiong originally from Sabah, Malaysia and now a Singapore Citizen came here in the early 1990s to pursue his studies in National University of Singapore.
Sze Kiong a science graduate is very much a self-trained filmmaker.
Szu Kiong who identifies himself as a “˜short’ film director, continually pushes bountries in the short film scene here.
THE FOREST SPIRITS is Szu Kiong’s fourth short film. He approached prominent independent actor, former stuntman and martial arts master Sunny Pang for the lead role after watching his performance in Sun Koh’s LUCKY 7.
Sze Kiong works full-time in a local publishing firm.
