Audition Calls for Singapore Arts Festival Platform Campus 20113 min read

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Thespis is putting up a production for Singapore Arts Festival 2011 under the Platform Campus programme and we need performers ““ you!

Re: Almost Left Behind, looks towards presenting a collection of original works based on the notions of returning home from one’s travels and the idea of home in travelling. This will be a yearlong process with three showings culminating in next June’s Singapore Arts Festival 2011 final showing.

Starting from September 2010, we will embark on a series of workshops, led by industry professionals, to better expose you to various disciplines of the arts and performance methods, and equip you with the relevant skills and tools for each of the showings. This developmental process is extremely rewarding as it will be very organic.

The performance will come from you, be written or conceptualised by you and presented by you ““ something you can truly call your own. The process of creating your art and exploring your craft will be carried out in collaboration and discussion with the artistic directors and other fellow performers during weekly rehearsals.

If you are currently schooling in NUS, NTU, SMU or SIM, and are under the age of 35 years old, have original ideas, and have a knack for story-telling, come for the auditions! No prior experience is needed.

Audition Details

Date: 28th & 29th August 2010
Time: 9am ““ 5pm
Venue: NUS Theatre Studies Practice Studio (AS3-01-01). It is located in the Arts faculty near LT13 and next to the NUS Publishing House.

Audition Requirements

  1. Present “Your Most Important Travel Memory” in 3 minutes.
  2. You are free to present in any art form(s) of choice.
  3. Should you have anything related to your story such as a travel journal, do present it during the auditions.
  4. And should you have a portfolio of previous art works (any discipline), do bring it along during the auditions as well. But this is (again) strictly not necessary.

Thespis is interested in how a story is told and essentially, the story content.

A CD player, speakers, projector, and screen will be provided should you need them in your presentation. You may request for other kinds of basic technical equipment to be on standby, but prior notice must be given via email and the provision of the said equipment is subject to availability.

If you were to be interested, please fill out this audition form and email it to Kai at thespis.alb@gmail.com, latest by 18 August 2010. Do also attach your resumes complete with a headshot. Audition time slots will be arranged with you via email.

Audition is strictly by appointment only. Late comers will only be seen at the management’s discretion.

See you at the auditions!

More about Thespis

Thespis is a non-profit arts interest group founded by a group of National University of Singapore (NUS) Theatre Studies students two years ago. Our projects are initiated and directed by motivated youths who wish to pursue their artistic endeavours or simply try experimenting with something new. We are also always interested in working on devised creations, which evoke thought and hopefully a two-way conversation between performers and audience members.
