Kelvin Tong joins Raintree Pictures1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteLocal film-maker Kelvin Tong has put on a new hat as creative director of Raintree Pictures.
The 37-year-old has his own film outfit Boku Films and it was announced last month that the two companies have entered into a partnership to further develop the movie business in the region under a two-year agreement.
Mr Man Shu Sum, Raintree’s managing director, says Tong’s position is a new one and his role is to “help review concepts, look for good stories and create original ideas within Raintree”.
He adds: “The driving force behind the creation of this position is to strengthen Raintree’s new direction of playing a bigger producer role, and for this, you need to be able to find as well as create new stories and concepts of a certain standard.”
Tong fits the bill as Mr Man says: “Kelvin is a good all-rounder. He writes good scripts, and he produces and directs as well. He’s got good ideas and stories that travel internationally.”
Tong’s supernatural thriller Rule #1 (2008) was also released in Hong Kong and Malaysia and an option to remake it has been picked up by a Hollywood studio/TV network.
