Kelvin Tong prepares his first suspense thriller1 min read
Reading Time: 2 minutesFrom the action/romance of Eating Air to winning the Best Film Award for supernatural thriller Rule #1, acclaimed Singapore film maker Kelvin Tong has had his hand in a range of genres. But now he is taking another step forward as he presents his first-ever suspense thriller entitled, Kidnapper.
Kidnapper is co-financed by Singapore’s Scorpio East Pictures and Malaysia’s RAM Pictures & PMP Entertainment and is possibly the first ever Singapore and Malaysia suspense thriller co-production. Produced by Kelvin Tong’s own Boku Films, Kidnapper is a thought-provoking and moving story about an ordinary taxi-driver’s extraordinary love and determination to rescue his kidnapped son.
The movie will bring together the best acting talents from both Singapore and Malaysia, with Singapore’s number one leading man Christopher Lee (The Wedding Game, Best Bet) and Malaysia’s top performer Jack Lim (Love Matters, Ah Long Pte Ltd) taking on the lead roles. The shooting process is slated to begin this August and will be entirely shot in Singapore.
As scary as the title may sound, Kelvin Tong’s aim for this movie is one of deeper intent.
He says, “Kidnapper is my tribute to the ties that bind us when everything else falls apart. It is an ode to parenthood. Having made two horror films, I am ready to move on to a brand new genre. Instead of scaring audiences, I want to move them this time round.”
Following the success of the award winning performance of supernatural thriller Rule #1, which collected the Best Film award at both the Singapore International Film Festival 2009 and Singapore Entertainment Awards 2009, this will be Kelvin Tong’s first suspense thriller.
Kidnapper is targeting a release in March/ April 2010.
