Reading Time: 2 minutesThe 3rd Asian Festival of 1st Films has announced its list of nominees, which includes 21 films and documentaries across a total of nine award categories. Hosted by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), the AFFF is an event under the Asia Media Festival, and culminates in the Awards Night on 4 December 2007.
In addition to the 21 nominees, eight others have been selected for the out-of-competition category.
Winners of AFFF 2007 will receive a specially designed Swarvoski trophy, which will be presented with a prize sponsored by MDA for Best Film and Best Documentary.
Amongst the dazzling selection is the Australian-Singapore production “Feet Unbound“, directed and written by Australia-based Singaporean Ng Khee-Jin under Long March Films. The documentary tells the story of a journalist who followed the ill-fated footsteps of the 2,000 women who took part in the Chinese Communists’ Long March, a 12,500km military retreat which spanned over 3 years. With a haunting string soundtrack playing in the background, audiences are treated to encounters with the femme survivors along the route who re-tell their stories.
The film first made its premiere at the 19th International Documentary Festival in Amsterdam, and was also part of the 2007 Singapore International Film Festival.
